We mark this anniversary with the GMW-B5000PG — an addition to the line of GMW-B5000 full-metal takes on the very first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000, which debuted 40 years ago in April 1983.

The limited-edition timepiece is clad in recrystallised and deep-layer hardened stainless steel developed with this run in mind. Following recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening, the bezel and band are treated with gold ion plating and the screw-lock case back with DLC coating for a bold, radiant look.

In a special nod to the DW-5000, the dial features the phrase “SINCE 1983.” The case back is engraved with the Eric Haze-designed 40th logo, and the lower left button is engraved with a star, for a timepiece that crystallises the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary celebration.

Precisely 40 years since the April 1983 debut of the G-SHOCK, this trio of new timepieces celebrates the four-decade mark by presenting an exciting new take on the very first G-SHOCK using innovative materials and finishes.

Original design benefits from strengthening techniques: Stainless steel recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening

The use of stainless steel recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening processes makes for an exterior design with a remarkably original look of radiance. Additional applications of ion plating (IP), titanium carbide (TiC), and other coatings deliver beautiful colouration.

*The stainless steel is processed into components and then recrystallised, yielding unique differences in crystalline grain. This makes the pattern, colour tone, and lustre differ subtly from part to part.

Deep-layer hardening process (stainless steel)

This technology creates a hard layer by infusing carbon into the surface of the steel. Unlike coatings, the process delivers enhanced strength by hardening the material itself.

The texture of the stainless steel for this model is enhanced not only with the recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening processes, but also by an additional TiC coating. The screw-lock case back also has a DLC coating applied to it and is engraved with the 40th anniversary logo. A star is engraved on the Mode button on the lower left side of the case, and the phrase “SINCE 1983” appears on the dial.

*Due to the screw-lock construction of the case back, the orientation of the logo and lettering on it may not match up perfectly with the dial.

GMW-B5000PG

For this model, all the stainless-steel exterior components are treated with recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening processes, and then gold-coloured IP is applied. The screw-lock case back also has a DLC coating applied to it and is engraved with the 40th anniversary logo. A star is engraved on the Mode button on the lower left side of the case, and the phrase “SINCE 1983” appears on the dial.

DW-5040PG

Paying homage to the very first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, this model features recrystallisation and deep-layer hardening processes applied to the screw-lock case back, buckle, and band loop. Black IP is then applied to the case back, and gold-coloured IP to the buckle and band loop. In addition, the bezel and band are made with bio-based resins to help reduce environmental impact. The words ‘PROJECT TEAM “Tough”’ adorn the dial. The screw-lock case back is engraved with the anniversary logo, while the band loop features four stars to commemorate the four decades of G-SHOCK. Another star is engraved on the Mode button on the lower left side of the case.
