Created to mark the 30th anniversary of MR-G, the flagship line of the G-SHOCK brand, the MRG-B5000SA captures the extraordinary beauty of the “super blue” ice caves found in Iceland’s largest glacier. Seen only by those who venture into this remote polar landscape, the cave’s mysterious glow is recreated in a rich interplay of blue tones.

The world of “super blue,” created by the pure glacial ice, comes to life with two large 2-carat blue sapphires set into the bezel. Inspired by the iconic octagonal G-SHOCK form, each gemstone is cut with an original eight-facet design and meticulously polished to deliver a bold, solid presence while revealing brilliant gleams from every angle. These lab-grown blue sapphires offer a level of quality control difficult to achieve with natural gemstones. Grown as ingots over the course of several months, only the sections with exceptional colour consistency, clarity, and minimal inclusions are carefully selected. Blue arc ion plating (AIP) on the bezel, blue ion plating (IP) on the suspension parts, and blue vapor deposition on the sapphire crystal showcase nuanced hues of blue across the exterior, further enhancing the brilliance of the sapphires.

Built on the MRG-B5000, the archetype of MR-G toughness, the MRG-B5000SA embodies the uncompromising engineering and craftsmanship that MR-G timepieces are known for. The multi-piece bezel construction allows every component to be separately polished to an exceptional finish. High-hardness materials further ensure the exceptional shock resistance expected of MR-G timepieces, with COBARION used for the top bezel and Ti64 titanium for the case, buttons, and other exterior components. The Multi-Guard Structure, combining metal and shock-absorbing components, has been specially refined for this timepiece, providing outstanding protection for the module and the delicate blue sapphires.

In an edition limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, each watch is individually numbered and engraved with the “MR-G 30TH” anniversary logo on the case back. Embodying the MR-G pursuit of ultimate strength and beauty, the MRG-B5000SA features a distinctive design inspired by one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles, making for a singularly potent piece of watchmaking.

The powerful beauty of blue sapphire gemstones represents bold ideas that defy convention, brought to life through originality and innovation. This has culminated in a timepiece pioneering new realms of toughness in a way never before imagined.

The mystical blue glow of Iceland’s ice caves is created by highly pure glacial ice compressed over countless years, allowing only blue light to pass through. A pair of blue sapphire gemstones adorn the bezel, capturing the beautiful radiance of this stunning “super blue” sight.

A pair of large two-carat unset gemstones capture the spectacular blue hue of the glacial landscapes. The sapphire gemstones feature beautiful finishing from every viewing angle, with original eight-facet cuts inspired by the iconic G-SHOCK form and meticulous polishing.

Exquisite, blue-toned structural beauty

The bezel is formed from multiple separate components instead of a single piece. Each part is polished prior to assembly to give the watch a distortion-free finish, right down to the most challenging spots like recessed portions. A dedicated Multi-Guard Structure was developed specifically for this watch to meet the rigorous MR-G standards of shock resistance while employing a multi-component structure. αGEL® protects the blue sapphire gemstones with superior shock-absorption, while suspension components at the four corners and silicone buffers help absorb impacts to the module.

In addition, blue arc ion plating (AIP) is applied to the bezel, blue ion plating (IP) to the four-cornered suspension componentry, and blue vapour deposition to the watch glass made from sapphire crystal, expressing a “super blue” aesthetic across the entire watch exterior. The nuanced colour scheme incorporates varying hues of blue, accentuating the radiance of the blue sapphire gemstones.

Pursuing strength and beauty through materials

The top bezel is made with COBARION, an alloy about four times harder than pure titanium, with a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum. The side bezel, case, case back, buttons, and buckle employ a special Ti64 titanium alloy about twice as hard as pure titanium. Special surface treatments enhance wear resistance, helping to preserve the beauty of the metal over time.

The strap is made with Dura Soft rubber, a material that combines exceptional durability with flexibility. The tri-fold deployment buckle is crafted from super-hard materials, including Ti64 titanium.

Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the MRG-B5000SA features a case back engraved with the “MR-G 30TH” anniversary logo and a serial number. Each watch is presented in special anniversary packaging.

* Due to the screw-lock construction of the case back, the orientation of the logo and lettering on it may not match up perfectly with the dial.
