The MR-G design capturing the blue radiance of ice caves

As MR-G, the flagship line of G-SHOCK, celebrates its 30th anniversary, the MRG-B5000SA is born under the banner of the Blue Rose Project. For this completely unique timepiece, engineers embraced the ultimate challenge: making the impossible possible. Drawing inspiration from the “super blue” world of ice caves found in Iceland’s largest glacier, the design incorporates a variety of blue hues reflecting the spirit of polar exploration.

The design is based on the MRG-B5000, a watch symbolising the origin and evolution of toughness. The bezel is set with a pair of two-carat blue sapphire gemstones, and blue tones are incorporated throughout the design in components including the metal exterior, dial, and crystal. The passionate attention to detail that defines the MR-G line is reflected in the materials, construction, and finishing, including a newly developed Multi-Guard Structure and Japan-made super-hard alloys such as COBARION.

Blue Rose Project

Taking its name from the blue rose, the symbol of a miraculous feat that makes the impossible possible, the project is a story of challenge — the very essence of the G-SHOCK identity. The powerful beauty of blue sapphire gemstones represents bold ideas that defy convention, brought to life through originality and innovation. This has culminated in a timepiece pioneering new realms of toughness in a way never before imagined.

Blue sapphire gemstones gleaming with blue radiance

The mystical blue glow of Iceland’s ice caves is created by highly pure glacial ice compressed over countless years, allowing only blue light to pass through. A pair of blue sapphire gemstones adorn the bezel, capturing the beautiful radiance of this stunning “super blue” sight.

A pair of large two-carat unset gemstones capture the spectacular blue hue of the glacial landscapes. The sapphire gemstones feature beautiful finishing from every viewing angle, with original eight-facet cuts inspired by the iconic G-SHOCK form and meticulous polishing.

These lab-grown blue sapphires offer a level of quality control difficult to achieve with natural gemstones. Grown as ingots over the course of several months, only the sections with exceptional colour consistency, clarity, and minimal inclusions are carefully selected.

Exquisite, blue-toned structural beauty

The bezel is formed from multiple separate components instead of a single piece. Each part is polished prior to assembly to give the watch a distortion-free finish, right down to the most challenging spots like recessed portions. A dedicated Multi-Guard Structure was developed specifically for this watch to meet the rigorous MR-G standards of shock resistance while employing a multi-component structure. αGEL® protects the blue sapphire gemstones with superior shock-absorption, while suspension components at the four corners and silicone buffers help absorb impacts to the module.

In addition, blue arc ion plating (AIP) is applied to the bezel, blue ion plating (IP) to the four-cornered suspension componentry, and blue vapour deposition to the watch glass made from sapphire crystal, expressing a “super blue” aesthetic across the entire watch exterior. The nuanced colour scheme incorporates varying hues of blue, accentuating the radiance of the blue sapphire gemstones.

Pursuing strength and beauty through materials

The top bezel is made with COBARION, an alloy about four times harder than pure titanium, with a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum. The side bezel, case, case back, buttons, and buckle employ a special Ti64 titanium alloy about twice as hard as pure titanium. Special surface treatments enhance wear resistance, helping to preserve the beauty of the metal over time.

The strap is made with Dura Soft rubber, a material that combines exceptional durability with flexibility. The tri-fold deployment buckle is crafted from super-hard materials, including Ti64 titanium.

Special design celebrating the MR-G 30th anniversary

Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the MRG-B5000SA features a case back engraved with the “MR-G 30TH” anniversary logo and a serial number. Each watch is presented in special anniversary packaging.
